In our 41-year history, CHOICE Humanitarian has worked with and through thousands of rural communities to touch over 2 million lives. The CHOICE Way

Poverty is complex, and so is poverty alleviation. But with insights from over 2000 community projects, we've defined 4 key principles that lead to sustainable change. We hold fast to these principles while customizing to each community's needs, and we measure, evaluate, and learn for continual improvement.

LOCAL Leadership

It's about building people, not projects. We develop capacity in motivated community members and support them with training, tools, and resources. They lead by example and help their communities take ownership of the projects. With strong local leadership, the work is sustainable well past CHOICE's involvement.

COMMUNITY-BASED change

Systems keep poverty in place. It takes a community-based approach to alter the status quo. Using the global multidimensional poverty index (MPI), CHOICE drives holistic and systemic change so that many benefit in the community, not just a few. This expands the circle of impact and improves the likelihood of lasting results.

the LEVERAGE EFFECT

We strive to leverage every dollar given to CHOICE for exponential impact. Our country teams are extremely skilled at aligning CHOICE's proven capabilities with local resources. What was $100 in donations can become 2-3x that or more. Leverage increases local investment, multiplies outcomes, and makes donations go farther.

CONNECTION

Nobody can accomplish something alone. Whether it's local relationships and country partners or expeditioners engaged in heartfelt intercultural exchange, collaboration is at the core of our work. The world become smaller when we are connected, and the impossible becomes possible when we collaborate.

Where We Work

We work in some of the most remote, underserved regions in 7 countries. Often, these are areas where other organizations can't or won't go. We believe every person deserves the chance for a path out poverty.
