MARÍA CAN FEED HER FAMILY
María from Calmaraca, Bolivia, was working as a brick worker when she decided to look for new job opportunities. She soon became one of the first participants of the next greenhouse project with CHOICE Bolivia. "I wanted to have my own business and harvest my own vegetables to sell at the fairs and with the money earned, feed my family,” María shared. “But there are not many opportunities in my town."
With CHOICE's support through the greenhouse construction project, María is now a farmer producing vegetables in her greenhouse with the help of her children. Maria expressed, “I will eventually build myself another greenhouse as I already know how to build things with bricks.” María plans to continue her agricultural activities so that her community has access to the food they need and can build paths out of poverty.

A WATER TAP TO HONOR SANU’S SELFLESSNESS
Sanu is a resident of Mahankal in Nepal. As a 65-year old widow with 15 family members, she would wake up early every day to collect a bucket of water and haul it back to her home. Her large family had been surviving with just a single bucket of water each day for decades.
CHOICE collaborated with the community to gather necessary tanks, pumps, and resources to build meter-connected tap stands in residents’ yards. Sanu also gave of her labor, too, and worked hard to build the water system. Said Sanu, “Many thanks to the organizations and the local leaders who helped us have drinking water in our yard. They did not favor anyone and treated everyone equally.” Sanu and 157 families now have access to potable water.
HUSSEIN'S LEADERSHIP IN HIS COMMUNITY
Hussein is a farmer in Silaloni in rural Kenya, and he is using agriculture to bring change to his family and community. On his farm, he grows many drought-resistant crops, which provide nutrition for his family and generate income through surplus sale in the community. Additionally, he dug a water dam on his land that provides water to more than 2,000 people in the area. The neighbors use the water in their kitchens and for gardening at their homes.
Hussein has paired his industriousness with CHOICE, and he as big goals for the future. He plans to start agricultural clubs in a nearby school so that more people can become trained in farming methods. Even with the successes, Hussein sometimes loses his crops to elephants that invade the farm, especially during the dry months; but he remains hopeful. His aim is to continue working with CHOICE until he fulfills his dream of starting a local farming institute.
